September 03, 2010
Michigan will get $3.6 million in federal stimulus funds to begin rehabilitating a railroad station right here in Battle Creek. U.S. Transportation officials announced in a release Thursday that the money is part of 40 million dollars earmarked for high-speed
intercity passenger rail. Interior lobbies, restrooms, ticket areas and offices will be
renovated. The building's exterior will be refaced and get new lighting as well.
The funding also will help at a new Amtrak station in the
Detroit suburb of Dearborn, and a new facility in the suburb of Troy.
